Nuffield Student Stanislav Vassilev received a GOLD CREST AWARD from the British Association for the Advancement of Science during the celebration evening after the presentation of his work on the 4th Generation Light Source (4GLS) at Daresbury Laboratory.

Stanislav is a Year 13 student at Lymm High School, a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school with a student population of approximately 1950 students. All science and maths subjects are popular choices at Advanced Level, with many students going on to study science based degrees such as medicine and engineering. For the first time, this year a group of exceptional students were nominated to take part in a scheme run by Nuffield Bursaries. The scheme has proved very successful and provided students with valuable insight into the world of work and the demands of working in a science-based profession.
Speaking of his experience at Daresbury Laboratory Stanislav enthused: “I worked at Daresbury Laboratory for four weeks under the supervision of Dr Gerd Priebe. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there as it was challenging yet fun at the same time. I enjoyed learning all about 4GLS, what its purpose is and how it operates. The experience was very beneficial to me as it encouraged me to study physics at university. Everyone that I worked with was extremely friendly and I was made to feel part of the team. I enjoyed my individual tasks as well and felt like a real scientist”.
